This reading made me think of when Columbus and his crew finally placed foot on the new land. The reading makes me think of somebody who is recording almost a documentary on what was going on at the time and what it was like. Something i would like to know more about in this passage is if the natives were angry or glad to see Columbus and hew crew step on their land and what happens next after he is finished recording. One thing i didn't understand was when Columbus says "it was a great affliction to me to be ignorant of their natures, for i am very certain they are all valuable; specimens of them and of the plants I have preserved. I was most interested when Columbus speaks of going to meet the king and acquire some gold; my question to this is what will he do if he does not get the gold, will he take it by force? or will he let them live in peace?. I do wonder though what everybody else's thoughts were about there new surroundings. For the most part i didn't quite see a message that was trying to be expressed. I'm not so sure why the natives were not angry about the crew violating there territory and taking water that belonged to them. The setting is important in this passage because it explains where the crew is so the readers don't get mixed up if it were to be somewhere else. Overall i didnt mind the reading and i thought it was well written
